Joann Rice was born in Queens, New York to Joseph Principe and Anne Cuccia on November 1, 1942.
She graduated from Long Island City High School. Joann went on to earn an Associate Degree in Applied
Science from Borough of Manhattan Community College. She worked in various schools throughout the
five boroughs of New York City in the Administration Department as a school secretary for several
Principals and Assistant Principals for over 30 years.

She enjoyed many hobbies such as: bowling, knitting, crafting, calligraphy, dancing and playing her
guitar. She was an avid reader, loved crosswords, puzzles of every kind, and game shows like Jeopardy
and Wheel of Fortune. Anything that challenged her intellect she appreciated.
Joann has received awards and honors in Behavior an Citizenship, honored NYC’s Secretary of the Year
twice, she ranked 4th academically with honors from her H.S. graduating class. She was often on the
Manhattan Community College’s Deans list for her outstanding GPA. Joann excelled in everything she
tried and often would set goals for herself just because she could. For example: she once tried to beat the
Worlds Guinness Book for the fastest typist but had to accept defeat at 92-98 WPM. Her greatest
achievement is that of the unsung single parenthood award. She was a devote mother to her two children
and a wonderful grandmother to her two grandchildren.

Joann often gave charitable gifts to Salesian Missions, The Billy Graham Ministries, Carman Ministries,
and local police associations.

Joann is survived by her two children, her son-in-law, her sister and brother, along with her two
grandsons. Joann is preceded in death by her mother, father, step-father, her grandparents, several aunts
and uncles, cousins, her brother-in-law, and step-brother.
