Obituary of Maxine Calloway

Maxine Calloway, 80, passed away at home on January 16, 2022 in Phoenix, Az peacefully with
her daughter and grandson.


A Memorial service will be held at 1pm on Wednesday January 26, 2022 at Red Mountain Funeral
Home with Chaplin Ray Jones of United Hospice, officiating. Arrangements are by Red Mountain
Funeral Home.


Maxine was born in Crossett, Arkansas to Levi Calloway and Dorothy Mae Miller on July 26,
1941. She entered this life along with her twin brother Eugene (Gene) Calloway, Sr. Due to
several childhood illnesses she did not finish school. She moved to Omaha, Ne approximately
in 1963/64..There she met Donald Ray Taylor and together they had a beautiful little girl named
Donna Raenell Calloway. She wanted to raise her child in a christian home and become closer
to God and study his word. She joined Morning Star Baptist church and after 30 years joined
Zion baptist. She was very active in church; she was in the church choir and a Sunday school
teacher. She had a very beautiful voice. She loved the Lord and her church families. She worked
30 or more years at Northern State Beef packing house, in her later years as an administrative
assistant at the US Marshals bldg in Omaha for about 1 year. After her daughter joined the
United States Navy in 1994, she began to travel around the country with her daughter supporting
her throughout her naval career for 20 yrs, maintaining the home and nurturing and raising her 2
grandchildren. Her biggest achievements in life where the profound knowledge she possessed
in studying the word of GOD and raising her daughter and grandkids to become educated, have a
caring and compassionate spirit for others and being independent.


Maxine is preceded in death by her parents Dorothy Miller and Levi Calloway, her brothers
Eugene and Curtis Calloway.

Maxine Calloway is survived by her only child Donna Calloway, 2 grandchildren, LaMeisha Davis
and Donte' Ashford, sister Vera Givens, Arkansas, 6 nephews: Eugene (Geno) II, Chicago, Ill, Larry
Criswell, Danny Hughes, Dennis Calloway, Andre Criswell all Arkansas, Kebyn Criswell East Point,
Ga, 1 niece Wanda Harris Arkansas. Great Niece Janae Calloway US Navy and her daughter Jori
Logan, 2 great nephews Eugene (Tre) Calloway III US Army, Elijah Calloway US Airforce, and
many other blood relatives.

The family of Donna Calloway wishes to extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to Ms
Whitney James, Mom's nurse, Ms Michelle and Ms Ann, CNA's..you all helped us tremendously
every day!! You gave us words of encouragement and reassurance EVERY DAY! AND WE THANK
YOU SO MUCH!! And thank you to all the administration of United Hospice & Palliative Care of
Arizona Morning Star and Zion Baptist churches in Omaha, Ne and all Momma's friends and to
our extended family in Omaha. A Special thank you to Mrs Beatrice Coleman for taking care and
overseeing Momma's stay in the nursing home there. We thank the whole family up there for
always being apart of our lives and loving Momma!!
