Delma Beard

Obituary of Delma Eugene Beard

Delma Beard, age 71, of Chandler, AZ, passed away on November 27, 2021 with his wife and youngest daughter by his side. He fought a noble battle with West Nile Virus.

He was born to Julius Earnest Beard and Hazel Jayne Driver Beard, on March 21, 1950 in Mobile, Alabama. Delma graduated from Mary G. Montgomery High School in 1968. He attended the University of South Alabama.

Delma married the love of his life Vickie Jean Carbo Beard in 1971. They met in Semmes First Baptist. They were high school sweethearts and they married the fall after Vickie graduated in the same church where they met. Their lives were built on their love for God, each other and family. Their love was an unwavering and true example of their vows “in sickness and in health! Vickie would tell Delma “I love you” and Delma would always respond “I love you more!” Delma loved Vickie unconditionally and in a way she had never known before. They celebrated their 50th anniversary in September while Delma was at Chandler Regional Hospital! They shared 50 years full of wonderful adventures with family and friends!

Delma was a wonderful father and Papa.  All who knew Delma were blessed to have him in their lives. He set a Christian example in the way he lived his life. Caring, loyal, helpful, honest, patient, and truly happy are the endearing characteristics Delma had. He was greatly loved. Delma loved unconditionally and without expecting anything in return. He loved to laugh and his smile could light up a room. Delma never met a stranger and everyone he encountered immediately knew what a special person he was.

His legacy includes the pride he took in each and every one of his family members. He absolutely loved being with his family. What a Papa he was! He loved spoiling his grandchildren and teaching them all kinds of things. Each of his grandchildren had a special relationship with him. He took the time to teach them, just as he did with his children. He took the time to learn about what his family enjoyed so he could support them. He loved Alabama football. Even when we weren't together, we were celebrating touchdowns. Roll Tide! Delma loved to serve in his church in many capacities. He loved to be busy doing all kinds of projects around the house, in the yard, working on cars, fishing and boating.  He would jump in and help anyone.

Delma is survived by his wife, Vickie, Oldest daughter, Valerie Bobo (Scott), Son, Kevin Beard (Christy), and Daughter, Tabitha Macziewski (Scott). Grandchildren, Brittanne, Lottie Mae, and Scotlyn Bobo of Midland, Texas, Jesse Harris (Emily), Sean Beard (Christy) of Mobile, Alabama, Brady Beard (Areanna), and Jack Beard of Odessa, Texas, Richard and Victorine Macziewski of Chandler, Arizona. Great-Grandson, Oliver Beard of Mobile, Alabama.

He was preceded in death by his father, Julius Beard and mother Hazel Beard and his stillborn daughter, Tammy Michelle Beard. Cousins, Anne Plaisance and Kay McGraw and many Aunts, Uncles, and cousins. They are having a great family reunion in heaven.

A celebration of Delma’s life will be held on Sunday, December 5, 2021 at  2:00 PM at First Baptist Chandler. The family would like in lieu of flowers that donations be made to: Mosquito Illness Alliance in memory of Delma Beard for continued research for treatments and possible cure for West Nile Virus.
