Obituary of Jane Oake Eaton
Jane Oake Eaton, who loved to be called “Momma” by her kids, was called
home to her Heavenly Father, on Monday, October 4, 2021, at the age of
78, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s and Dementia. Despite the
pain, Jane was a fighter and stayed that way until the very end. She was
surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor her legacy by living
life to its fullest in her memory.
Jane was born to Charles Orest Flagg and Huerretta Monroe Henderson
on May 20, 1943 in Sheridan, Wyoming. Mom was named after her Aunt
Jane, who she adored and grew up with her older sister, Mary Ann and her
twin sister Lillian. After graduating from Miami High School (Miami, AZ) in
1962, she went to work at the Grand Canyon for the summer. Upon her
return she started working in a diner and met the love of her life, Vernon
Hugh Eaton. They were married September 4, 1964 in Globe, AZ and
spent their honeymoon in the attic of his parent’s home. On January 22,
1965, Jane and Vernon were sealed for time and all eternity in the LDS
Mesa Temple. Together they had 7 children: Kandi, Vern, Lee, Chris, Kim,
Joy, and Randi.
Through the years, Jane enjoyed raising her family and cooking delicious
meals for her family. She was always so loving and caring that
neighborhood children and friends would gather around the kitchen table
for after-school visits and snacks. Everyone called her mom and she
accepted them all as her “adopted” children.
Jane was a very active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day
Saints and served in many capacities throughout her life. She was a ward
librarian, ward missionary, primary teacher, and held various positions in
the Relief Society.
Outside of Church related jobs, Jane worked as a Paraprofessional for
Mesquite Jr. High, where she retired in 2005. However, she missed
working and being around the students and soon went back to work for
Mesa Schools at Longfellow Elementary School for a few more years.
Anyone who knew Jane knew that her greatest gifts were her kind heart
and unconditional love. Jane had many hobbies and talents including
crafts, crochet, cross-stitch, scrapbooking, baking and so much more. She
also had a passionate love affair with Hershey’s chocolate bars and salty
