Obituary of Jill Marie Giroux

Jill Marie Giroux, 63, of Mesa, Arizona passed away on September 23rd, 2021 in her home,
surrounded by her loving family.
Visitation will be held at a family home on Saturday October 2nd, 2021.
Cremation has taken place by Red Mountain Funeral Home in Mesa, Arizona.

Jill was born in Junction City, Kansas to Cyrus and Margie Young on February 6th, 1958. After
moving several times, the family settled in Lawrence, Kansas, where she graduated from
Lawrence High in 1976, ranking 12th in her class of over 600 students. She then attended the
University of Kansas, graduating with a degree in Business. After moving to Chicago for an
advantageous job offer, she married Jim Giroux in 1984. The two welcomed a daughter in 1989,
Jill’s only child, Lauren, who was the light of her life. Jill and Jim later divorced.
Jill continued to succeed in life and business as she worked in the telecommunications field,
working up to a position of Vice President of Strategic Planning. Through her work, she
reconnected with Richard Vanderwoude and they married in 2001, having a ceremony in Las
Vegas, one of Jill’s favorite places to vacation. Vacationing was a favorite pastime for Jill,
traveling frequently around the country, but also enjoying trips to beaches around the Caribbean
and Mexico. The marriage brought three bonus daughters and their families into Jill’s life,
Kristen, Lisa, and Abbey.

In addition to business and travel, Jill excelled in creative endeavors. She used her creative
talents in the cake decorating business, designing gorgeous cakes for people’s special days.
She also enjoyed sewing and home decor, leaving priceless gifts and designs for her loved ones
to enjoy for a lifetime.
Jill also was a devoted Catholic, volunteering her time as a religious education leader for Lauren
and her peers through middle and high school.
In her retirement, Jill enjoyed spending time with Richard and Lauren, as well as new additions
to the family, her son in law, David and grandson, Isaac. Her treasured bond with Isaac
sustained her youth and fed her heart. She was looking forward to a similar bond with her
second grandchild, Mariana, who was named after Jill Marie.

Jill is preceded in death by her parents, Cyrus Young Sr and Margie Young.
Jill is survived by her husband Richard; daughter Lauren (David) Gomez, bonus daughters
Kristen (Tim) Hutsko, Lisa (Chad) Wilkinson, and Abbey Vanderwoude; sisters Linda (Eddie)
Lee, Carol (Jon) Amyx, Pamela Young, and brother Cyrus Young Jr (Tatum); grandchildren
Isaac and Mariana Gomez; bonus grandchildren Nicholas, Mathew and Cole Hutsko, Andrew
and Lauren Haisfield, and Tyler Wilkinson.

Memorials may be given to Hospice of the Valley. The family would like to thank MD Anderson
Cancer Center, Hospice of the Valley, and her sister, Pamela Young, for their dedication to Jill in
