Obituary of Thomas Harold Smith

Thomas Harold Smith

11-25-47 – 07-12-21

Thomas Harold Smith, of Torreon New Mexico, age 73, passed away unexpectedly on Monday July 12, 2021, while on his way to see his mother as he did every Sunday.   As he peacefully went with the Lord his fiancé Vicki Duran was by his side.

Thomas Harold Smith was born on November 25th, 1947, in Memphis, Tennessee to parents Harold Smith and Nellie Perkins.

Thomas Harold Smith attended Milby High School in Houston, Texas where he met his first wife Minia Smith. He married her after at the young age of 18 and they were married for 40 years. Soon after they were married their family quickly grew from 2 to 7 as they brought 5 beautiful children into the world: 3 boys and 2 girls.

Thomas Harold Smith worked hard to support his growing family as a machinist and later worked in upper management in the oil industry.

He enjoyed his books, he was a wizard of mathematics, a historian, an inventor, and a writer.  He also was a self-adventurist, and it wasn’t uncommon for him to head out to his favorite place, Mingus Mountain.  It was within those very mountains Thomas found himself enjoying his books and strengthening his relationship with the Holy Trinity of The Father, The Son, and The Holy Ghost. Reciting Scriptures (verbatim) came easy for him and with this great knowledge he brought himself and others great comfort.

As a father to 5 children, he was loving. He encouraged his children to find their own way & he didn’t micro parent, that wasn’t his style. However, if and when they needed help, he never refused. He was always there, no questions asked.

He was a simple man and his favorite food stash always consisted of his spam sandwiches, grits in the morning, and shelled peanuts.  Yet, he was well versed in most everything and sharp as a tack. People were drawn to him as he never was without an interesting and fascinating story. One was easily made aware of his irresistible telltale of when he was excited about anything, with his rapid snapping of his fingers followed by a “Yeah, Boy Buddy!” and a boyish grin.  This was unforgettable and was his own special way of showing his uncontrollable excitement.

Thomas Harold Smith is proceeded in death by his Stepfather Alex James Pritchard and his son Brandon Scott Smith who recently passed on 3/21/21. He is survived by his Mother Nellie P. Pritchard, his Fiancé Vicki Duran and his two beloved dogs Lilly and Brodie. He is survived by his first wife and mother of his children; Mania Smith, their eldest son Thomas “Scooter” Smith, Hollie San Julian (Jeremy), Chanell Clarke (Reed) and his beautiful grandchildren; Allissa Smith, Ashlee Powell, Arielle Smith, Abigail Smith, Chase Sellers, Nevaeh, Brookelyn and Rayn San Julian, Story and Rush Clarke, and Kylee and Zak Smith.

We will be relocating his mother, Nel Pritchard, back to Arizona to be with family.  In lieu of flowers, donations to assist with the relocation are greatly appreciated. No services will be held at this time.
