Robert E. Bitgood passed away quietly in his sleep on Sunday May 16th, 2021 at his home in Phoenix, Arizona of natural causes. He was 88 years old. "Bob" as he was known by friends and family, son of Margaret Torrey Bitgood and Paul E. Bitgood, was born in Norwich, Connecticut and lived the majority of his life in Rochester, New York.
Bob was known for his sense of humor, his love of music, and his incredible memory for dates, names and places. He served in the US Air Force Reserve and was a graduate of the University of Rochester. He sold science equipment to schools for much of his career. Bob and his wife Virginia (“Ginny”, who passed in 2015) had three children, Jeff, Todd, and Paige. He is survived by his three children as well as four grandchildren, Heather, Emily, Wesley, and Elise.
Bob loved spending time with his family who have many happy memories of time spent together camping in their RV/bus, taking his two 1949 Hudson classic cars to antique automobile shows, and attending numerous Dixieland Jazz and Big Band concerts and festivals over the years. He also greatly enjoyed attending musical performances and sporting events of his children and grandchildren through the years.
A memorial service will be held on Grindstone Island, Thousand Islands, New York on July 18th, 2021.
