Obituary of Bessie Lee Byrd

Bessie Lee Byrd, age 88, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her four children on April 29, 2021 due to chronic pulmonary disease. She was born February 4, 1933, in Waseca, Minnesota to Frank and Elma Hasner. She was married to Vernon Byrd, who preceded her in death in 1988.

Bessie loved her friends and family and enjoyed keeping up with all of them on Facebook. She loved receiving videos and pictures of her grandkids and great-grandkids. She loved watching sports, listening to her music, and most of all: bingo. We have a feeling she will find a special bingo hall in our Father's house in heaven as she joins those who have passed before her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Ruth (Fred) Ripka, Charlet (Bob) Oser, Frankie (John) Copp, Hazel (Bill) Wright, and brother Ezra (Betty) Hasner.

Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her children: LaVerne (Vince) Martinez, Lorna (Jeff) Johnson, Eric (Katie) Byrd and Larry (Nicky) Byrd. She will be sorely missed and survived by her two brothers Thomas and O.J. (Jan) Hasner and two sisters Evie Jane Hasner and Kay (Ron) Poppler. She was the proud grandmother of Kristen (Mat) Garrett, Tracy (Mike Illies) Johnson, Matt Johnson, Lauren (Nick) Welander, Daniel Jackson, Makena Byrd, Averie Byrd, and great-grandmother of Mackenzie and Layla. She will also be remembered and missed by her many nieces and nephews. We will miss her every day.

Per her wishes a private scattering of ashes ceremony will be held in Arizona at a later date.

Special thanks to Aunt Janie, Tracy and Elliot Richie, Home Health Care, the Suncrest Hospice team and Red Mountain Funeral Home who provided invaluable care for Bessie.
