Robert Shearer

Obituary of Robert Charles Shearer

Robert C. Shearer, age 77, of Gold Canyon, AZ (formerly of Algonquin, IL) died peacefully at the home he shared with his partner of ten years, Elizabeth Jacoby, on April 12, 2021, after a long battle with pulmonary fibrosis.

He was better known to his family and friends as “Bob.” He was born on May 19th, 1943, in Woodstock, IL. Bob started in the building trades as a young man and attended Washburne trade school in Chicago in the early sixties. Bob worked as a journeyman carpenter and then a master carpenter before going on to build several successful businesses in construction and later in residential and commercial insulation. Most notable was his last business, Northwest Insulation, based in Algonquin. He was well known in the community and often hired and mentored people new to the trades and was known to be a generous and thoughtful employer.

Bob was a larger than life presence who worked hard and played hard. He loved socializing with his family and friends. Bob was an avid golfer who also enjoyed black Jack, good wine and good cigars. He loved his frequent family vacations to Mexico and outings to Las Vegas before permanently retiring to AZ around 2012. In retirement, Bob enjoyed the sunny and warm Arizona climate, playing golf, reading about current events and spending time with his loved ones.

Bob is survived by his ex-wife of 45 years, Judi Shearer, and their two children, Wendy Shearer and Robert J. Shearer.  Bob had two beloved grandchildren, Ryne Shearer and Serena Shearer, and one great grand child, Lilly. Bob was particularly fond of his grandkids and was glad that he lived long enough to welcome his great granddaughter into the world last November.

Bob is also survived by his sister Marilyn “Kay” Scharlau of Mesa, AZ and sister Sandy Leis of Carlyle, IL.
