Mary Spezzano

Obituary of Mary Helen Spezzano

Mary Helen Spezzano, 80, of Mesa, Arizona, passed away on Thursday, March 11th, 2021 in Gilbert, Arizona

Funeral service and burial will be held at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona with Pastor Daniel Ross of Fountain of Life Christian Fellowship officiating on Tuesday, March 16th, 2021.

Mary (or Helen as she was known to most everyone) was born in Perry, Oklahoma to Elmer Earl and Mary Francis Hammer on February 1st, 1941. She attended Mesa High School during which she fell in love with the most handsome baseball-playing, Air Force mechanic, Dominick Anthony Spezzano, Jr.  After a short season of courting, they were married and started their dream life together.  Helen spent most of her younger years raising their four children and being a pillar of support to her husband who worked in the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office as well as in SWAT and Bomb Squad.

In her free time, she would share her beautiful gift of song and piano playing by performing at weddings. As an adult, she volunteered much of her time serving her local church with administrative needs.

The strength of this woman was, and continued to be into her latter years, an unparalleled attribute which inspires future generations to embrace the God-given courage in each of us.  She was a fiercely strong-willed yet endlessly generous woman of God. Her legacy is one of endearing love, selfless sacrifice and fervent prayer and worship which will continue to impact generations upon generations to come.

She cared for her husband and children with unmatched dedication, doting on her 15 grandchildren and spouses, 26 great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandchild.

Helen is survived by her husband of 63 years, Dominick.
