Obituary of Mikayla Carmen Robello

Mikayla Carmen Robello, 21, known to those closest to her as “Toolie,” “MK,” or preferred nickname “Fran,” passed away in her home in Tempe, AZ on February 4th, 2021.

Mikayla put others before herself, her deep care for the people and animals around her was a natural expression of her love and spirit. Her turn to vegetarianism in the 4th grade was just the beginning of her compassion for animals. Mikayla’s love for dogs grew with her age, and she dedicated much of her time and energy to taking care of shelter canines. As a volunteer for the Humane Society, she fostered dogs, learning and reporting each pooch’s needs so they could find a loving home. As an owner herself, she preferred the company of senior pups. Indeed, Mikayla’s home was truly a hospice—she helped older dogs spend the last of their time enjoying the best days of their life. She kept her family up-to-date on the latest happenings and photos of Rango, Opal, Bells, and Indie—senior animals she loved as if they were her children.

Though she wouldn’t admit it, Mikayla was a talented artist who worked in ceramics, acrylic and watercolor paint, mosaic, and pencil. She could have made a living with her craft and creativity, but preferred to use her talent to surprise friends and family with cherished, charming works of art. She had no trouble transforming strangers into friends, and her ease in speaking to those around her made her joy contagious (her smile, shining like the sun, was helpful in this regard).

She lives on through her loved ones, her mother Stephanie Hooser, her father Carl Robello, her brothers Cameron and Cory Robello, her Grandmother Charlotte Sorg, her step mother Karen Robello, her step father Jim Hooser. We hold her love, talent, care, and thoughtfulness close to our hearts.
